The Federation of Yoruba Community in Spain held its inauguration and cultural ceremony on 6th September, 2014 in Madrid, Spain. The event was attended by Her Excellency Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Ambassador of Nigeria to the Kingdom of Spain and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UNWTO, who was the special guest of honour at the event, Otumba Gani Adams, Leader of Oodua People’s Congress(OPC) and Coordinator of Oodua Progressive Union(OPU), His Royal Majesty, Oba Yisa Olanipekun, the Zaki of Arigidi-Akoto, Ondo State, Leader of Yoruba Communities in Europe, Journalist, staff of the Embassy of Nigeria and other important guest.

In her speech at the occasion, Her Excellency admonished members of the Association to be worthy ambassadors of the Yoruba race in particular and Nigeria in general by promoting the good image and interest of Nigeria. She stressed the need for unity, cooperation, peace and harmony amongst them in other to build a Nigeria of their collective dreams and aspiration. She underscored the importance of discipline, honesty and hard work and enjoined them to shun crime, lawlessness and acts or actions that could be prejudicial to the interest of Nigeria. The Ambassador later inaugurated the Association and swore in the members of Executive of the Association.

The highlight of the event were cultural dances, presentations, music, launching of Yoruba Unity Hall, Launching of Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) by the national Coordinator of the Union Otumba Gani Adams. Her Excellency was latter presented with an Award, in recognition of her relentless efforts in promoting excellent bilateral relations between Nigeria and Spain as well as ensuring excellent service to Nigerians both resident and visiting Spain.
