Embassy of the federal republic of nigeria celebrates nigeria’s 54th independence anniversar and centenary celebrations

Independence day ceremony
The Embassy of Nigeria on 3rd October, 2014, celebrated Nigeria’s 54th Independence Day Anniversary and Centenary celebrations. The event which was held at the prestigious Hotel Melia Castilla, Madrid, was attended by important dignitaries, Senior Government Officials of the Kingdom of Spain, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Representative of the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Spanish businessmen, members of Nigerian community in Spain and guests from far and wide.
The event featured among other things, a fashion show to showcase the best of Nigerian and Spanish fashions, performances by several Nigerian cultural dance troupes, Spanish flamenco dance group, a raffle draw and a gala dinner. There was also the traditional breaking of kolanut, which was performed by HRH Michael Ozua Okoye, the Onowu nine of Awkuzu community, Anambra State, Nigeria.
Independence day ceremony
The highlight of the evening was the presentation of ‘Merit Award of Excellence’ to Her Excellency, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain in conjunction with the International Diplomatic Association of Spain, for her tireless efforts in strengthening the bilateral relations between Nigeria and the Kingdom of Spain on the one hand, and her outstanding contributions to the diplomatic community in Spain on the other hand. The award was presented by the Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Spain together with all the Deans of the five Regional Diplomatic Corps, as well as all the Ambassadors present at the event.
Similarly, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was honoured by the Embassy of Nigeria, Spain, in appreciation of her immense support to the Mission as well as her outstanding contributions to good governance and excellence in public service.
