Highlights of the meeting of head of mission, amb. bianca o. odumegwu-ojukwu with leaders of nigerian ssociations in spain,19th january 2013

At the instance of the Head of Mission, Ambassador Bianca O. Odumegwu-Ojukwu, a meeting of the Executives of Nigerian Associations in Spain, was held at premises of the Embassy of Nigeria, Madrid, Spain on 19th January, 2013. Present at the meeting were the Deputy Head of Mission, Ambassador Dokun Fagbohun and other Home based officers.

In welcoming participants to the meeting; the first of its kind since her resumption of office as Nigeria's Ambassador to Spain, the Head of Mission, Ambassador Bianca O. Odumegwu- Ojukwu, commented on the negative reports she received on the plight of Nigerians in Spain,
before her resumption of duty. She assured the representatives of the Nigerian community that she would undertake a tour of the seventeen
regions of Spain, to acquaint herself with the prevailing situation in the country.

She also added that the welfare of Nigerians would be her top priority during her tenure. She consequently solicited the support of the Nigerian community in Spain for the success of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,GCFR. The meeting which deliberated on wide ranging issues including: Police Character Certificate, Machine Readable and E-Passport, the unsolved murder cases and unlawful detention/ deportation of Nigerians in Spain, effective channel of communication between the Mission and Nigerians, valuation of Nigeria's Educational Certificate and the reactivation of moribund Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) between the two countries, ended well.

During the question and answer session, participants sought clarifications on pertinent issues and received appropriate response
from the Head of Mission and Heads of Departments. Thereafter, the meeting ended with an appeal by the Head of Mission to officials of the
Associations, to enlighten and educate their members, on the peril of illegal stay in Europe and the need to invest in Nigeria.
On its part, the Ambassador promised that Mission's service delivery to Nigerians in Spain, would be improved, while Nigerians resident in Spain were enjoined through their representatives to be good Ambassadors of their country.
